Pezula Private Estate appointed the dhk group to develop an urban design and architectural vision for the 4th phase of this award-winning estate.

The urban design process was governed by the consideration of the natural attributes and the slope of the site, as well as rehabilitation of the land that form part of Pezula’s on-going environmental programme. Optimisation of views to the Knysna Lagoon and surrounding mountains also played a key role in the final positioning of the 34 residential sites.

Four house types were designed, namely the Linear House, the Courtyard House, the Ridge House and the Contour House. These types all consist of a collection of building forms, many of these reinterpreted in the various types. The recurring elements assist in creating uniformity within the overall development.

Distinct roof structures were designed to open views to the mountains surrounding the site. The open plan living area and luxurious en-suite bedrooms with private external courts are linked with a central wall element, defining the main entrance to each house in most instances.

Every house was carefully planned and positioned on the building zones to ensure a symbiotic relationship between the various natural and built elements of this unique terrain.
